On September 25, 26 and 27 2015, cyclists will be riding on the Gilles-Villeneuve track to raise funds for Make-A-Wish / Fais-Un-Voeu Québec at the 48-HOUR RIDE event.
Each team has to raise at least $ 3,600 to participate. Teams that raise $10,000 and over get to personally sponsor a child’s wish.
Raising funds for events like these is never easy. Of course, it’s easier nowadays to get in touch with friends and family who are more likely to help. Getting the word out on Facebook and Twitter helps. That being said, past participants have often felt that email was one of the most powerful tools they had. Marc Poirier, from Acquisio, raised over $ 11,000 in 2014 – only using emails!
So of course, creating a spin-off app for the event was a no-brainer for us.
Over the course of two days, in the context of a hackathon, the CakeMail team created and deployed “Roulez Pour un Voeu.” The goal was to create a simple app that people could use in just a few clicks to spread the word and get generous souls to help back their teams.
The web app that lets participants use their 48-HOUR RIDE sign-in information to create their account.
They then connect their webmail client (Google, Yahoo!, Windows Live, AOL or Outlook) to get all their contacts loaded up.
Four carefully crafted emails are then sent off at regular intervals until just a few days before the event. The people you’ll be sending to will never receive more than one email per week – if you sign up late (within 2 or 3 weeks of the event), your contacts will receive fewer emails.
It just takes a few clicks and it’s super quick to use and send out the emails. The best part is that once the emails are sent, you don’t have to think about them anymore.
Give it a shot and let us know how it goes.
PS: When our VP Operations gave it a whirl and sent the email to 77 acquaintances he raised almost 45% of his goal… within two hours. Think you can beat his score?
